The Couch Begins!

This is the Couch Mobile that I built. These pictures a a couple years old now. The couch looks much better now. Newer pictures will follow as I get them together.

The version seen here is actually the second one that I have built. The first one began as something to drag behind my truck and eventually grew wheels and an engine. That design was built from a riding lawnmower. It debuted in the Nixa Sucker Day parade under the clever name of Sofa King Cool. That version was difficult to drive because the steering and braking were handled by the person up front, and the throttle and gear shifting were handled by the person in the back. It died on the way to high school graduation when I took it out of gear on a hill to stop at a stop sign and the wheel man didn't realize he was in control of the brakes. We rolled backwards into the front of Bret's pickup. The engine on the couch was exposed in the back and made direct contact with Bret's bumper. Metal fragments went flying and the couch was dead.

These pictures are of the build which took my free time for a couple of months in the spring of 2009. It was ready for riding on Memorial weekend with a typical late night departure for the lake around 1 am.

	The begining of the couch. It is built on the frame of a 1984 Honda TRX200.
	I cut the ATV in half just in front of where the gas tank was. I extended the ATV frame using 1 1/2" square tubing welded together in a triangular frame

	There are only two bolts and two screws holding the couch on.
	I tried to tuck the engine up under as far as I could.
